One Boerum Place, Brooklyn NY Storefront and Entrances
We developed design alongside talented artisans and experienced fabrication professionals. The goal was to reduce sightlines and develop super tight radius of the IGU bent glass to match the curvature of the building. The hours of research and development with speaking with all the top bent glass fabricators in the world and gaining much knowledge enabled us to push the envelope and maximize what is possible with the given performance and quality criteria. The result was the glass had two bends with a wide flat section in the middle to match the building shape perfectly. The float glass we used is jumbo European sizes and we maximized all 3.2m of the width available.
The metal horizontals were custom made to join with the glass and to take the loads of the largest and heaviest panels. Bending a deep back box of that depth had to be custom built by artisans who understood aluminum fenestration.
The entire bent portions of the storefront were preassembled in Spain since the tolerances between the metal and glass is a important factor to QC when maximizing the bends and sizes.
Associates on this project were Avro structural engineering, Cricursa, Al-Andalus, Ellison Bronze and Tvitec.
